Amber Heard ‘hired private investigator to dig up dirt’ on Johnny Depp but they ‘found nothing’
Paul Barresi alleges he was hired by Amber Heard’s lawyers to find people who had been verbally or physically abused by Johnny Depp
Amber Heard hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on Johnny Depp but they found nothing, it’s claimed.
Paul Barresi alleges he was hired by Heard’s lawyers to find people who had been verbally or physically abused by Depp and be star witnesses in the upcoming defamation case against her.
Depp is suing his ex-wife in a $50m (£37.8m) defamation lawsuit after she allegedly made defamatory statements in a Washington Post article in which she claimed she was a domestic violence survivor.
But Barresi said he couldn’t find anyone who had a bad word to say against Depp after interviewing over 100 people who had worked with the Pirates of the Caribbean star over the last 30 years.
He told the Daily Mail “I went to the US, France, Italy, Britain, everywhere that Johnny Depp roamed, everywhere he walked, I couldn’t find one instance, or at least an admitted one, where he was physically abusive to a woman, smacked or beaten around, he’s like an angel.
“Not one who said a deprecating thing.
“‘I interviewed dozens of people, who knew him going as far back as three decades ago, and nobody had one bad thing to say about him.
“In fact, they couldn’t say enough about his ever flowing outpouring of generosity and tender heart.”
Johnny Depp’s lawyer told us: “Since Amber Heard’s own stories are lies, her legal eagles had a bright idea: hire a former gay porn star private investigator to dig up dirt on Johnny Depp.
“Yet as this private investigator, like Amber Heard’s other employees, friends and witnesses surrender to the truth, The Sun soldiers on as a key co-conspirator promoting her abuse hoax. We will soon discover why.”
A spokesperson for Amber said: “Mr. Barresi hasn’t been involved with Ms. Heard’s team since he was let go last year, and his account is entirely inconsistent with the testimony of multiple witnesses.”
The couple split in May 2016 and Amber made a series of domestic violence allegations, which Depp has always denied.
Images emerged at the time showing Heard with a bruised eye and face and she claimed they were caused when Depp threw a phone at her face and struck her in their home.
In 2018 Amber wrote about her experiences as an alleged domestic violence survivor in a Washington Post article.
Althought the article didn’t mention him by name, Depp said the article caused him to lose work, notably his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates Of The Caribbean films.
Last month it was confirmed that the defamation lawsuit against her will go ahead after she lost an appeal.
A judge has dismissed her claims that three of the four sentences the Hollywood star complained about were not defamatory.
“The implication that Mr Depp is a domestic abuser is categorically and demonstrably false,” Depp’s lawsuit states.
Depp has instead claimed that his ex-wife was repeatedly violent towards him during their volatile two-year union, which she denies.
In the defamation lawsuit, reported in the US, Depp claims that a month after they wed, Heard threw a vodka bottle at him and caused the bones in the tip of his right middle finger to shatter.
